Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) had it right. He called out Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Maxine Waters before their time. They’re nothing new. They are opportunists who use people, their emotions, anger and fears for their own gain. Booker T. said it this way:
“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”
Eric M. Wallace states in his blog: “As early as the 1900s some Blacks were using the grievances of the Black community, not to improve their plight, but to make a living propagating and agitating discontent among the masses. Today, we would call these “race hustlers”. The goal is to discourage Black people from using their minds to think for themselves. The strategy employed by the race baiter is to rehearse the atrocities of the past, thus stirring and igniting the emotions. Once the emotions are stirred up, there is little critical thinking or discernment about the real issues. Facts don’t matter much when people are emotional. Tea Party members and supporters have been called every name in the book. Our politicians use us as their battering ram to keep themselves and their parties in power. For most of us, it’s akin to water that runs from a duck’s back. It means nothing because its not true. Some of us have died to the world, its approval or censure; died to the approval or blame of even our brethren and friends, let alone strangers who do not know us. We stand for what the Founding Fathers procured for us with their blood, sweat, and tears. Why would the so-called leaders of this nation be adverse to that stance?
We know the truth about these people. They are the “new plantation” owners. They believe that they “own” a certain demographic and can lay hold of it for generations upon generations. Recently a brouhaha occurred when party affiliation as going to be left off of a ballot in a local race. The Democrats felt it would disenfranchise their voters since the (D) would no longer be next to the candidate’s name. REALLY? Obviously, they are quite content to think that those who vote for them are lazy, uneducated, or “owned.” Let’s not have issues or integrity get in the way. You know that pesky thing that Martin Luther King spoke of in his famous ‘I have a Dream’ speech – “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Should not the voters demand the same of them? Content of character! Is name calling and blaming the “content of character” MLK would approve?
They have kept the black community, for the most part, in poverty with promises to make life better with continued failed polices. The unemployment rate for black youth is 40%. Maxine Waters and those of her party had full control of the House, Senate, and White House for two years. They had control for two years under the previous administration. What have they done to improve the plight of their “owned” community? NOTHING. The black community is waking up thanks to courageous citizens as Starr Parker, Congressman Allen West, and Charles Payne of Fox Business News, Eric Wallace and Thomas Sowell. They are boldly speaking out as did Booker T. Washington. Keep it up. Speak for independence and self-reliance.
We in the Tea Party want all people to have what our Founding Fathers spoke of in our Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” All men!
Pursuit of Happiness is just that, a pursuit. None of us black, white, or brown have any guaranteed outcome of our pursuit, but at least we want the chance. If ANY part of our citizenry plays the blame game, they belittle themselves not those they attempt to slander. If ANY part of our citizenry holds on to the “professional victim” stance, they will never advance in a way that reaches the dream that Martin Luther King had for his children. Blame the Tea Party supporter for demanding that we hold to our Constitution and sound fiscal principles; you lose. That’s the way the race hustlers want it. They want you to lose. They are terrified you’ll find that the Tea Party is actually your friend. You see the difference is the Tea Party wants a “win-win situation” for all; not a “I-win, you-lose” situation that the race hustlers and opportunists want for all of us.
